Suburbs / Purgatory

Definition: Outlying area of a city.​

The Suburbs are interesting. As they represent a middle point of two areas.  The country and the city.  Its like purgatory for people who cannot decide whether the city or the country is right for them.  Although many may still drive in traffic for hours to spend most of their life in a city.  It makes no sense.  Millions of people live in the suburbs but why?  Is it so there are no surprises?  Or, is it simply people are lost and really can't decide.  So, they live in the middle where both the sides are within reach.
